Business Development Manager

Location: Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, UK

Join a talented and ambitious global engineering consultancy specializing in the rapid engineering and development of sustainable electrified propulsion systems and associated technologies, working directly and collaboratively with automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, aerospace and defense OEMs, Tier-1s and industry research bodies through our technical centers in North America, the U.K. and India.

You’ll be applying innovation and initiative on a daily basis to design and prototype propulsion and actuation systems for a new age of sustainable technology, within a refreshing, team-focused, rewarding culture and a 4½ day standard working week. Personal Profile and Experience

Do you enjoy working on fast-paced projects, applying your engineering skills to a wide variety of technologies and applications, whilst challenging yourself every day?

In the role of Business Development, you’ll work closely with engineers, technicians and customers to design, build, and execute testing for electro-mechanical and electrified powertrain systems of all kinds. Equally at home getting your hands dirty and applying analytical skills, you will find fulfillment in bridging that traditional gap.

You’ll be operating in a fast paced project environment, needing technical, commercial and customer management skills whilst collaborating with some of the most innovative people, companies, and technologies on the planet. What you will need

You will have:

  • Degree educated in mechanical, electrical or control system engineering or related discipline OR equivalent demonstrable experience
  • An engineering background, with experience in electrified propulsion systems, transmission and driveline, or other related powertrain systems
  • A proven successful track record in business development, preferably in a consultancy environment or tier 1 with clear commercial targets
  • In-depth knowledge / market intelligence of the key industry sectors and the current market trends and
    drivers
  • In addition to passenger car, you understand one (or ideally more) of the following global sectors: commercialvehicle, off-highway, aerospace or defense
  • Ideally fluent in one or more of the following: French / German / Japanese / Chinese

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of compelling bids and proposals, in conjunction with our engineering teams
  • Pro-active pitching of our products and services
  • Negotiating contracts and commercials terms
  • Achieving sales targets across diverse accounts
  • Overseeing, on occasion, delivery teams and being the customer voice
  • Assuring the newly won projects are successfully kicked-off
  • Generating and maintaining successful relationships with customers and key accounts, with focus in specific sectors, territories, and customer accounts
  • Desire to engage customers via worldwide, short and long-haul travel (where COVID restrictions allow) and via all other channels in a pro-active and compelling manner
  • Researching organizations, sectors, territories and individuals to identify appropriate new leads and potential new clients
  • Developing the DSD brand by attending conferences, meetings and industry events
  • Developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with peers and technical leaders
  • Identifying key market trends that influence our R&D strategies and technology roadmaps
  • Being fully aware of and actively complying with Drive System Design’s policies and procedures
  • Exhibiting a passion for learning and facing new challenges
  • Understand and follow DSD’s values and professional standards and technical best practices in project management, quality, communication etc.
  • Actively undertake continued professional and personal development
  • Participate in activities to share technical knowledge and know-how across the business
  • Present and communicate technical and commercial information, clearly and concisely, both internally and to customers
  • Take an active role in the continuous improvement initiatives
  • Generate and maintain relationships with customers at an appropriate level
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with peers, business development and technical leaders
