Principal Business Development Engineer

Location: Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA

Personal Profile and Experience

Do you enjoy working on fast-paced projects, applying your engineering skills to a wide variety of technologies and applications, whilst challenging yourself every day?

As Principal Business Development Engineer, you will be a part of a dispersed team in developing business opportunities across North America.  Your focus will be on fostering long-term, mutually beneficial strategic relationships within designated key accounts and sectors, leveraging your engineering skills across a wide variety of technologies and applications in a fast-paced environment.

What you will need

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering is required. Business Administration degrees are a plus
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development within the oil and gas sectors. Preferred candidate will also have experience in selling driveline systems to Marine and Navy customers.
  • Experience selling Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) or the design and development (engineering services) of equipment, gear boxes, drivelines, motors, power electronics, and software
  • Deep understanding of oil and gas industry technologies, systems, equipment, and equipment design
  • Preferred understanding of marine and navy drive units and gear boxes
  • Represent DSD at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to enhance visibility and foster relationships within the aerospace and defense communities
  • Preferred five years of engineering experience within electrified propulsion systems, transmission and driveline, powertrain testing, and hybridised powertrains
  • Deep knowledge and market understanding of key industry sectors, current trends, and drivers
  • Experience developing and executing strategic approaches for diverse markets
  • Ability to lead global teams including in-house business developers, regional sales teams, and broader engineering communities within DSD and Hinduja Tech
  • Availability to train onsite at DSD in Farmington Hills, Michigan at least 50% of the time for the first 3 months
  • Availability to travel both in U.S. domestically and internationally (25% of time, twelve weeks maximum). 1 customer trip per month is to be anticipated
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)

Key Responsibilities

  • Own all opportunities for DSD in the oil, gas, marine, and navy industries
  • Establish business contacts and setup customer meetings for DSD in the oil, gas, marine, and navy industries
  • Prioritize short-term and long-term business development efforts
  • Coordinate global sales channels, including representatives and teams across Hinduja Tech operations
  • Lead the creation of competitive bids and proposals
  • Actively promote products and engineering services across all offerings
  • Negotiate contracts and commercials terms
  • Meet sales targets across various accounts and regions for the US operation
  • Advocate for customer needs during project delivery
  • Ensure successful initiation of newly acquired projects
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with customers, collaborators, and key accounts
  • Willingness to engage customers through travel, conferences, and other proactive communication channels
  • Research organizations, sectors, territories, and individuals to identify new leads and potential new clients
  • Support the DSD strategy across its six key themes.
  • Enhance the brand through participation in conferences, meetings, and industry events
  • Foster collaborative relationships within DSD and across Hinduja Tech
  • Identify market trends influencing joint venture R&D strategies and technology roadmaps
