Head of Business Development

Location: Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, UK

Personal Profile and Experience

Do you enjoy working on fast-paced projects, applying your engineering skills to a wide variety of technologies and applications, whilst challenging yourself every day?

In the role of Head of Business Development, you’ll be responsible for developing business opportunities with new and existing customers throughout the UK, mainland Europe and key regions in Asia. Developing long term mutually beneficial strategic relationships within designated key accounts and sectors will be a key capability.

You’ll be operating in a fast paced project environment, needing technical, commercial and customer management skills whilst collaborating with some of the most innovative people, companies, and technologies on the planet. What you will need

  • A degree educated in mechanical, electrical or control system engineering or related discipline OR equivalent demonstrable experience
  • An engineering background, with experience in electrified propulsion systems, transmission and driveline, powertrain testing, and hybridized powertrains
  • A proven successful track record of growth in business development and key account management, preferably in a consultancy environment or tier 1 with clear commercial targets
  • In-depth knowledge / market intelligence of the key industry sectors and the current market trends and
    drivers
  • In addition to passenger car, you will understand one (or ideally more) of the following global sectors: commercial vehicle, off-highway, aerospace, marine or defense
  • Ideally fluent in one or more of the following: French / German / Japanese / Chinese
  • Demonstrate the development and implementation of strategic approaches to diverse and changing
    markets
  • Show the motivation / leadership of a global team, of in-house business development professionals, dispersed regional sales teams around the globe and the wider global DSD and Hinduja Tech engineering communities

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritize near term and longer term business development and marketing
  • Mobilize and co-ordinate wider sales and marketing channels including global representatives and wider
  • DSD teams and Hinduja Tech operations
  • Lead the creation of compelling bids and proposals
  • Pro-active pitching of products and services across all offerings
  • Negotiating contracts and commercials terms
  • Achieving sales targets across agreed diverse accounts and regions, on behalf of UK operation
  • Forecasting and delivering top-line and bus dev overheads
  • Member of UK ops board representing sales, marketing, bus dev, account / sector strategies
  • Being the customer voice as required in delivery
  • Assuring the newly won projects are successfully kicked-off
  • Generating and maintaining successful relationships with customers, collaborators and key accounts
  • Desire to engage customers via worldwide travel and via all other channels in a pro-active and compelling manner
  • Researching organizations, sectors, territories and individuals to identify appropriate strategy updates, new leads and potential new clients
  • Supporting the delivery of the DSD strategy around 6 key themes (to be elaborated on)
  • Developing the brand by attending conferences, meetings and industry events
  • Developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships throughout the DSD and wider Hinduja Tech group
  • Identifying key market trends that influence joint venture R&D strategies and technology roadmaps

General Responsibilities

  • Present and communicate technical and commercial information, clearly and concisely, both internally and to customers
  • Take an active role in the continuous improvement initiatives
  • Generate and maintain relationships with customers at an appropriate senior level
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with peers, business development and technical leaders
  • Lead the UK-based business development team and account owners, and manage the globally dispersed sales representatives to enable diversified growth across sectors and regions, delivering a year on year and longer term growth targets
  • Participate in activities to educate, share technical knowledge and know-how across the business, inside and outside joint venture
  • Being fully aware of and actively complying with joint venture policies and procedures
  • Taking responsibility for your own continual development
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, clients, stakeholders and contributing to the team ethic at work
  • Acting as a role model for DSD’s values and professional standards
  • Developing your personal reputation with your peers and within customers and suppliers as an ambassador of DSD
  • Exhibiting a passion for learning and facing new challenges
  • Adapting to the needs of a growing and developing business
  • Willing to undertake short and long haul-travel on behalf of the company
  • Being fully aware of and actively complying with DSD’s export control and other policies and procedures
